Bibliographical sketch for Betty Peting

 

Betty was born Elizabeth Ann Mattingly, on September 30, 1939 in Oak Park, Illinois to Robert and Evelyn Mattingly.

 

Married Donald Peting on May 26, 1962 in Dolton, Illinois at Lorimer Memorial Baptist Church.

 

Two children; Mark (Nov. 15, 1964) and Linda (April 14, 1967)

 

She died in Eugene, Oregon, on October 10, 2006 of a cancerous brain tumor discovered only 6 months earlier.

 

Early years and education:

 

Her father was a heating and air conditioning contractor, opening a business in Roseland, on Chicago’s far south side, near the end of WWII. 

 

An only child, she grew up on Wallace Street in Roseland in an area with many families of Dutch decent in the neighborhood.

 

Attended a Christian Reformed Grade School (Roseland, grad 1954) and High School (Chicago Christian, grad 1957).

 

Nursing Career:

 

Graduated from West Suburban Hospital School of Nursing in 1960, a program in cooperation with Wheaton College.

 

1960-62 RN at Ingalls Memorial Hospital in Harvey, Illinois

1962-63 RN at Herrick Hospital, Berkeley, California

1979-2002 Working as RN in Eugene, Oregon for a number of doctor’s offices and clinics, retiring from PeaceHealth Medical Group

 

Places lived and travels:

 

Lived in Chicago, Berkeley, Seattle, Port Angeles, Rome, Italy and Eugene, Oregon.

 

Travels include 2 years of traveling through Europe on three extensive trips; and additional trips to China (and Tibet), South Africa, New Zealand, Australia
